Fashion and Feminism, a request: that domestic violence in Vogue?

Called one of my favorite songs of recent years Invite Me undervalued musician Adalita Melbourne. This is the haunting plea lovers in the choir (above), which kills me. These words visually to life when a friend sent me the cover of Vogue Hommes magazine come (photo) this week. I thought the image of models Stephanie Seymour and Marlon Teixeira in a warm embrace was attractive, like the song, and so innocent back typed:'' I saw this pose with Ryan Gosling. Need to grow. If only. Sigh.'' What followed was an hour of e-mails telling me that I should be ashamed. My friend had the image sent to me so I the chorus of condemnation of feminist colleagues and groups of women can join rights. I was informed that the photo is not sexy ...'' It is violent pornography flattering picture of violence against women.'' Even my own dear friend Lisa Wilkinson on the Today Show was Teixeira hand gun compared to the neck Seymour. I numbers horrific violence was recorded in Australia, I am only too aware of sad. I was invited to an open letter to the editor of Vogue Hommes read "stakeholders Sanctuary of families at Safe Horizon, New York and NOW Equality Now, who said:'' This picture really disturb a woman strangled sends a dangerous message to anyone The magazine sees this - suffocation is a sign of passion rather than violence.'' And then I took another look at the picture with this insult to the spirit, and was seen, in fact, a different perspective, more sinister. But honestly, I had to look. My first reaction was not changed - and the throttle is not a fantasy of mine, believe me. I enjoyed a different interpretation of the image Terry Richardson for the second time with a confident and dangerous intentions. Maybe subliminally I chose a woman to give to see their own needs, not necessarily the file for him. For me, Stephanie Seymour was almost palpable power of their sexuality and desire in the photo. Yes, I will now turn? His S & M voice, but given the ridiculous success of 50 Shades of Grey, there is no real cause shock in all links If the book is fine, why not in the picture I say this as someone who is vehemently against any form of violence against -. Against women, men, children and animals I vocal campaign against domestic violence against women in particular, is one of the reasons why I do not like Fifty Shades of Grey and the threat of violence threatens not his Christian protagonists Anastasia endured so willingly and embarrassed. My call. My right. I also uncomfortable - almost disgusted - when I look at photos of controversial photographer Bill Henson and often naked prepubescent children. For me they represent a loss of hope, the young souls whose interior lights have been sprayed with a light extinction by an external force destructive. Yes, I see beauty and art in the same work. I do not like the message, the effect of age or of his subjects. And I will not apologize for either. If we want to discuss shocking images in fashion magazines, including Vogue Hommes line, I would say even more systematically portray evil. Models starve 15 cm heels and clothing prices is just obscene message empowerment. This is especially frustrating when the model shows a working mother with a $ 15,000 purse and accessories crying child as inevitable. But I do not think that fashion magazines should be banned? Of course not. I feel that work go unnoticed Henson? Absolutely not. I defend their right to exist with every fiber of my being. Just as I defend fifty Shades of Grey, Lars von Trier films and Two and a Half Men. If I do not like it, I have not observed. For me, the feminist argument should not obscure the other, freedom of expression. This does not mean condoning child pornography, bestiality and non-consensual sex - there are strict laws against them for a good reason. But I firmly believe that the art of all kinds that do not fit our legal limits must go. If only to stimulate a debate like this. To provoke. Outrage. To make people think for themselves instead of censors remove the right to do so. The toleration of the art, we tolerate our human differences. Not a bad place, at least initially? While some images may offend me, censorship bothers me. I want the right to be offended. And look away when I want to. If art and literature banned, whenever there was a call for it, we would be deprived of Lady Chatterley's Lover, Lolita and Holden Caulfield. There would be no nude, be no R-rated movies, no car chases or shoot other villains. It was nothing. Nada. We would be in a cultural vacuum. Orwell's 1984 is not only a great novel, it is an ominous prophecy, never to be fulfilled. Some people see it as a starter. Others see it as a caress. Anyone can disagree with an opinion, but no one should with the fundamental right to object to keep it.
