Jobson: The final of the Louis Vuitton Cup

Cup commentator Gary Jobson of America gives his views on the upcoming final of the Louis Vuitton Cup between Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand:  The big question in all of sports is who will win the competition? On paper, the Emirates Team New Zealand looks like an easy winner against Luna Rossa in Italy in the Louis Vuitton Cup, Cup Challenger Series in America. In July, New Zealand beat Luna Rossa in every race head-to-head over a mile. Last week, however, the Italian team improving every day against Artemis Racing into the semifinals. The competition is doing enough to help Luna Rossa, where she could beat the mighty Kiwis? Before discussing the chances of Italy, there are some important points to note, the next race. The first two races are Saturday 17 August The winner is to be the first boat to win seven races. It could be a long series. The first race is scheduled for 01:10 local time each day. The race will take about 30 minutes. After a break of 30 minutes, the boats leave for the second race at 2:10. Last month, we saw the wind here in San Francisco to build later in the afternoon. There is a limit of 21 nodes drag in August and this limit is for the current set. If there is a flood of 1.5 knots at the edge of the wind increases of 22.5 knots. Conversely, when the tide drops to 1.5 knots (outside the bay), the race committee will reduce the limit to 19.5 knots.  To the equation, each team is allowed to add - only once in the series, no questions asked - to move to the second race of the day. This allows failure or other problem. As with any sport, "dead time" are usually held until the end of the game. We could learn a boat is faster in light winds, and so the team that prevent the time to overtravel when the wind is difficult to use in the afternoon. Race in the semifinals of last week's Luna Rossa seemed a bit faster compared to Artemis Racing, when the wind was light. New Zealand, but seems to be very fast in strong winds. If it were up to them, New Zealand rather see a wind limit. In Cup final in September to America to limit wind up to 23 knots. But before we have a lot of sailing until then. Which brings me to the big question. Italy can win? Italy and New Zealand gathered in the game before the America's Cup in 2000. This year was the skipper Russell Coutts Helen Clark. In the first series to win five he led for the first four races before passing the bar in his young protégé, Dean Barker. New Zealand defeated the Italians in five races in a row and Barker was at the top of each NZL team since. There is no doubt that New Zealand team is really strong. You have a lot more time on the water and another team, including defender. ORACLE U.S. team lost four months last year, when the first boat capsized and broken wing. The good news for the U.S. team is that they are two boats and are now on the formation of water on most days. In my eyes NZL is before Oracle at the moment but in a month, the situation can be due to all the house of various Oracle Racing As for Luna Rossa, the Italian team has several advantages. First, they showed well against Artemis Racing. As Luna Rossa skipper Max Sirena said after the race. "All of our race timely" helmsman Chris Draper is more convenient driving him and tactician Francesco Bruni seem to know how to navigate the boat that way. effectively at any time. Luna Rossa is now through quips on the films, something they failed to do consistently against New Zealand in July. The Italians also have a second wing was damaged in practice before the semi-finals. This wing of the second generation is their speed in order to improve the next round. There always seems to be less pressure on the underdog in any sport. Luna Rossa is the outsider. To win, you must win to Chris Draper runs. Against Artemis Racing, Draper had a win on the line, one draw and two defeats, but Artemis Racing was penalized at the start of the race fourth (Incidentally, I think the referee was to blame for Italy, Sweden have not punished). Shortly after the first stage of the four races, Luna Rossa took control and extended the lead to average a little less than two minutes to win. At 30 knots, it is about a mile ahead. Luna Rossa run by Patrizio Bertelli, the head of the fashion house Prada. Bertelli was the game of the America's Cup in 15 years. There will be a steady hand behind the scenes to make good decisions. Luna Rossa also has a strong coach Steve Erickson, a U.S. Olympic gold medalist and six-time veteran of the America's Cup. This is his fourth season with the Italians. Several crew members of the Luna Rossa are Olympic champions. These include Xabier Fernandez, who, having won a gold and silver medal in the 49er class and helmsman of Spain, Chris Draper, a bronze in the 49er class. They also have a strong design team includes 13 engineers are working hard to find improvements. Emirates Team New Zealand has the boat so it is probably in the shed since the Round Robin that they will be faster. Kiwis have to be careful to focus on the latest Louis Vuitton Cup and decide not to far to look ahead for the America's Cup itself. Sailing is a sport that can happen in the weird things. Failure, breach of a team, or a number of mistakes a team can get out of balance. The final of the Louis Vuitton Cup and the game of the America's Cup regattas is short, only 30 minutes to be seen. Crews will be tested every second. Call right tactics is the key to success. We learn that the swift currents of San Francisco Bay is an important factor, even in the early 72s AC. In every race seems to stretch the lead boat. There are not many pass routes. You can bet that tacticians and coaches of teams that currents and winds strategic options very carefully studied. Find a way to get another boat will be determined after an initial advance happen to be a big job. Luna Rossa has a lot on the board. Winning seven of 13 races against Emirates Team New Zealand will be difficult. But everyone loves an underdog, whether Italy should have plenty of support. After the match, the 30th Anniversary Edition of the Louis Vuitton Cup and will be with the Big Show in the center of the cup,
