As Gucci sends a bevy of Italian craftsmen to Australia for a made-to-order tour, a new era of luxury customisation beckons.
OK, we’ve heard of getting VIP treatment but this month Gucci are raising the bar. In a move designed to highlight the Italian craftsmanship and heritage of the Florentine house, the brand is sending its most skilled artisans from their atelier in Florence to our shores. The reason? Their talents will be put to excellent use customising leather goods for Gucci’s discerning clientele in Australia.
Fancy a personalised Soho hobo in rich cherry red or buttery cream? Or perhaps your own unique New Bamboo in zebra stripe pony skin or silver leather complete with iconic bamboo twist clasp and handle?
From Tuesday, May 15, the Artisan Corner takes shape in the Sydney flagship store before moving on to The Star and Melbourne’s Chadstone where, in the time it takes to sip a flute of Champagne (or two), one of the above-mentioned styles, as well as the Diana bag, Stirrup bag in python or ostrich, and a variety of wallets can be assembled on the spot.
If you prefer your luxury goods off-the-top-shelf, customers can still experience a bespoke thrill with craftsmen on hand to emboss select leather items. Opening up your Gucci clutch to reveal the interior stamped with your own initials in burnished gold? Now that’s VVIP treatment.
